Family-Owned & Local

A local Florida team that treats your home like our own and stands behind the work.

A chimney cap does one primary job — keep water, animals, and debris out of your flue — and in Aventura that job is more demanding than almost anywhere else in South Florida. Salt air off Dumfoundling Bay and the Intracoastal degrades galvanized metal caps quickly, sometimes within a few years of installation. Rust forms on the mesh screen first, then spreads to the body of the cap, and a rusted cap is not far from a failed cap.

Chimney Caps: What the Work Looks Like

What Our Chimney Caps Service Includes

Correctly-Sized Cap

A cap fitted to your actual flue size so it seals and stays put in Florida wind.

Rain & Moisture Block

Keeps direct rain out of the flue — a leading cause of interior chimney damage.

Animal & Debris Screen

Mesh keeps birds, squirrels, and leaves from getting in and blocking the flue.

Durable, Secure Fit

Quality caps installed to handle wind-driven rain and storm season.

Why Aventura Homes Need Chimney Caps

What we see on Aventura rooftops: galvanized caps with screens eaten through by salt corrosion (leaving the flue open to rain and birds), caps that have shifted off-center after a tropical storm and are no longer covering the full flue opening, and old flat concrete caps that were never designed to shed the volume of rain a South Florida summer drops. Any of those conditions means your flue is taking water every time it rains, and in a city that averages over sixty inches of rain a year, that is frequent.

We install stainless steel caps — 304 or 316 grade depending on the exposure — because stainless is the only practical choice in a coastal salt-air environment. The cap is sized to the exact outside dimensions of your flue or chimney crown, anchored mechanically so a Category-1 or -2 wind event does not lift it, and fitted with a mesh screen with openings large enough to allow draft but fine enough to exclude the animals that routinely try to move into unprotected South Florida flues.

If your current cap is galvanized and has been up for more than five or six years, have it inspected whether you can see visible rust or not — corrosion starts from the inside of the mesh and works outward, and by the time you see it from the ground the screen integrity is already compromised. A stainless replacement is a one-time fix in a way that galvanized caps simply are not in this environment.

Signs You Need Chimney Caps

  • You can see the cap is missing, rusted through, bent, or crushed
  • Birds, squirrels, or the sound of animals in the chimney
  • Leaves and debris collecting inside the flue or firebox
  • Rain coming straight down the flue or moisture in the firebox after storms

Chimney Caps in Aventura — Common Questions

Do I really need a chimney cap?

It's one of the best-value parts on the whole chimney. Without a cap, rain goes straight down the flue, animals nest inside, and debris blocks airflow. A proper cap prevents all three for a relatively small cost.

My cap looks fine — why is water still getting in?

A cap covers the flue opening, but water can also enter through a cracked crown, failed flashing, or porous masonry. If you have a leak, we'll check whether the cap is the issue or whether it's coming from somewhere else.

Can you match a cap to an unusual flue?

Yes. We size and fit caps to your specific flue, including odd shapes and multiple flues, so it seals correctly rather than just sitting loosely on top.

How much does chimney cap installation cost in Aventura?

Most Florida homeowners pay $150–$500 for a chimney cap installed, depending on material, flue size, and roof accessibility. What a specific Aventura job costs comes down to chimney height, roof access and pitch, and the condition of the crown and flashing, so we give a free on-site estimate with upfront pricing before any work begins. See the full cost breakdown.

What are the code requirements for a chimney cap or spark arrestor screen?

Screen openings shall not permit the passage of spheres having a diameter greater than 1/2 inch, nor block the passage of spheres having a diameter less than 3/8 inch. Under IRC section R1003.9.2, the net free area of the arrestor must also be not less than four times the net free area of the chimney flue outlet it serves, and the screen must have heat and corrosion resistance equivalent to 19-gage galvanized steel or 24-gage stainless steel. The arrestor must be accessible for cleaning, and the screen or cap must be removable so the flue can be swept. A screen finer than 3/8 inch is not code-compliant because it clogs with soot and chokes the draft. Source: International Residential Code section R1003.9.2, Spark arrestors

What is a 4-point insurance inspection and does it look at the fireplace?

A 4-point inspection covers four systems: roof, electrical, plumbing and HVAC, and Citizens Property Insurance requires one for all property owner, dwelling and mobile home applications on properties more than 20 years old. It must be completed, signed and dated by a verifiable Florida-licensed inspector such as a general, residential or building contractor, a building code inspector or a home inspector. The HVAC section of the Citizens form asks directly whether a wood-burning stove or central gas fireplace was not professionally installed, and the roof section asks about visible leaks and damage. So a hearth appliance and any roof-level leak around a chimney can affect whether a policy is written.
