Your Local Destin Chimney & Fireplace Team

One family-owned team for everything your chimney and fireplace need in Destin.

Here on the Emerald Coast, a fireplace isn't just for looks. When Panhandle cold fronts push down off the Gulf and overnight lows drop into the 30s and 40s, Destin homeowners actually light their fireplaces for warmth β€” sometimes for weeks at a stretch through January and February. That regular winter use is exactly why an annual sweeping and a pre-season inspection matter more here than they do farther south in Florida, and it's the work we do every day at Chimney Brothers Co.

We're a family-owned company, and we treat Destin homes the way we'd treat our own. Whether your flue is overdue for a cleaning before the first cold snap, you've noticed a stain spreading on the ceiling after a Gulf storm, or your masonry is showing its age from years of salt air and humidity, we'll come out, take a real look, and tell you straight what's going on. No pressure, no padded invoices β€” just honest pricing up front so you can decide.

From a quick sweep and inspection to flashing and leak repair, new caps and crowns, tuckpointing, full rebuilds, and fireplace service, we handle it all. Call (645) 224-9996 for a free estimate and a local crew that shows up when we say we will.

Chimney & Fireplace Service Built for Destin Homes

Destin's setting is beautiful and hard on a chimney at the same time. Homes from the bayside neighborhoods along Choctawhatchee Bay to the Gulf-front properties around Holiday Isle, Crystal Beach, and the gated communities like Kelly Plantation all sit in constant salt air and high humidity. That combination eats at mortar joints, rusts cap and damper hardware, and drives moisture into masonry far faster than an inland home ever sees. We regularly find deteriorated crowns and spalling brick on Destin chimneys that look decades older than they actually are β€” and most of it traces straight back to the coastal environment.

Then there's the weather that actually puts the fireplace to work. The Panhandle gets a real winter compared to the rest of the state, with cold fronts that send Destin lows into the 30s and the kind of damp, chilly evenings where a fire is genuinely welcome. People here burn season after season, and that means creosote builds up in the flue and needs to come out. That's why we always recommend an annual sweep and a pre-season inspection before you light the first fire β€” it's the simplest way to keep a chimney that gets used safe and drawing properly.

The other big one in Destin is water. Between summer afternoon thunderstorms, heavy downpours off the Gulf, and the occasional tropical system that tracks across the Panhandle, a chimney that leaks even a little will let you know fast. We do a lot of leak and flashing work around Destin β€” resealing the flashing where the chimney meets the roofline, replacing failed caps that let rain straight down the flue, and rebuilding crowns that have cracked and started funneling water into the structure. If you're seeing ceiling stains, smelling a musty odor near the firebox, or finding grit and debris in the firebox, that's water finding its way in.

Don't wait on the warning signs. A white or brown stain creeping across the ceiling near the chimney, a musty or smoky smell when it rains, crumbling mortar or flaking brick on the exterior, rust on the damper or firebox, or bits of masonry showing up in the firebox all point to moisture or wear that gets more expensive the longer it sits. If you've noticed any of these β€” or it's simply been more than a year since your chimney was swept and looked over β€” call Chimney Brothers Co at (645) 224-9996 for a free, no-obligation estimate from a local Destin crew.

Destin Chimney & Fireplace FAQs

How often should I have my chimney swept and inspected in Destin?

Once a year is the right rhythm for most Destin homes, ideally before the cold fronts arrive in late fall. Because Panhandle winters are cool enough that people here actually burn through the season, creosote and soot build up in the flue and need to come out annually. The pre-season inspection also catches coastal wear β€” corroded caps, cracked crowns, loose flashing β€” before the rainy and burning seasons hit. If you only light a fire a handful of times a year, we can talk through a schedule that fits your actual usage during the free estimate.

Why does my Destin chimney's masonry seem to deteriorate so fast?

It's the coast. The salt air and high humidity coming off Choctawhatchee Bay and the Gulf are hard on brick and mortar β€” they pull moisture deep into the masonry, where it sits and breaks down the joints and crown over time. The result is spalling brick, eroded mortar, and crowns that crack years earlier than they would on an inland home. The good news is it's all repairable: tuckpointing to repack the joints, crown repair, and water-resealing all slow it down dramatically. We'll tell you honestly what needs attention now and what can wait.

My chimney leaks during Destin's summer storms. Can you fix that?

Yes β€” leak and flashing repair is one of the most common calls we get on the Emerald Coast. Destin's heavy summer downpours and the tropical weather that tracks across the Panhandle expose every weak point on a chimney. Most leaks trace back to one of a few culprits: failed flashing where the chimney meets the roof, a cracked or missing crown, or a worn-out or absent cap letting rain straight down the flue. We come out, find the actual source rather than guessing, and fix it β€” reflashing, crown repair, a new cap, or sealing the masonry as needed. Catching it early keeps a small leak from turning into interior water damage.

Do you serve all of Destin and the surrounding Okaloosa County area?

We do. We cover Destin and the surrounding communities β€” from the bayside and Kelly Plantation areas to Crystal Beach, Holiday Isle, and out toward Fort Walton Beach and Niceville here in Okaloosa County, as well as nearby Miramar Beach. We're a family-owned Florida team, so you get a real local crew rather than someone dispatched from hours away. Call (645) 224-9996 and we'll confirm we cover your address and get you scheduled, with same-day service available when something's urgent.

How much does chimney repair cost in Destin?

The most common repairs range from around $150 for a cap replacement to $5,000 or more for flue relining, with most single repairs falling in the $300–$1,500 range in Florida. What a specific Destin job costs comes down to chimney height, roof access and pitch, and the condition of the crown and flashing, so we give a free on-site estimate with upfront pricing before any work begins. See the full cost breakdown.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes β€” every job starts with a free, no-obligation on-site estimate and upfront pricing. No trip charge and no hidden fees.

How long does a typical chimney repair take?

It depends on the work. A sweep or inspection is usually done in one visit; a crown reseal, cap, or flashing repair is often same-day; a partial or full rebuild can take longer. We give you a clear timeframe with your estimate.

Do you work on prefab (factory-built) fireplaces too, or only masonry?

Both. We service traditional masonry chimneys and fireboxes as well as prefabricated, factory-built fireplace systems β€” including wood-burning and gas units.

My chimney failed a home inspection β€” can you help before closing?

Yes, that's one of the most common reasons people call us. We assess exactly what was flagged, explain what's actually needed, and give upfront pricing so you can move forward with your sale.

Do you clean up after the work?

Always. We protect the work area, contain soot and debris, and leave your home as clean as we found it β€” that's part of the job, not an extra.

How do I book or get a quote?

Call (645) 224-9996 or fill out the short form on this page. Same-day service is often available for urgent issues like an active leak.

How tall does a chimney have to be above the roof?

Chimneys shall extend not less than 2 feet higher than any portion of a building within 10 feet, but shall be not less than 3 feet above the highest point where the chimney passes through the roof. That is the exact wording of IRC section R1003.9, adopted verbatim as R1003.9 of the Florida Building Code, Residential. It is commonly called the 3-2-10 rule, and both conditions must be met at once, so whichever produces the greater height controls. The 10-foot measurement is horizontal and includes ridges, dormers, adjacent walls and nearby structures. Does Florida require a carbon monoxide alarm if the house has a fireplace?

Yes for new construction. Florida Statute 553.885 requires that every separate building or addition constructed on or after July 1, 2008 that has a fossil-fuel-burning heater or appliance, a fireplace, an attached garage or any other feature that emits carbon monoxide as a byproduct of combustion must have an approved operational carbon monoxide alarm installed within 10 feet of each room used for sleeping purposes, or at other locations required by the Florida Building Code. The requirement can be met with a hard-wired or battery-powered CO alarm or a combination CO and smoke alarm. The statute applies to new buildings and additions, not to existing buildings undergoing ordinary alterations or repairs. Source: Florida Statutes section 553.885, Carbon monoxide alarm required
